Attendance Policy

3/1/2022

Hello Parents/Guardians and Students,

For your information, the following are some important dates and details that will be happening at Madison Jr. High:

Monday, March 7 will be the 1st day of the 3rd Trimester.  Students will be allowed to pick up schedules that morning in the front foyer.

Attendance Final Day   (March 4, Friday)
  • The bell schedule will be "normal" for Attendance Final day.
  • Students need to attend classes at their REGULAR time according to their class schedule.
  • Students need to remain in class the entire class period.
  • If a student is here at the school, they will need to be in a class.
Below is from our student handbook and School Board Policy:

For the 2021-2022 school year Attendance Final Day will be a day at the end of the trimester for students to come to school and do makeup work or retake tests to improve their grades.
At the conclusion of every trimester, students who have good grades are rewarded by not having to come to school on the last day of the trimester. On Attendance Final Day, students with low grades need to come to the courses in which their grades are lower than 60%.  Students need to come to the class at the assigned class time.  Busses will run as normal; school lunch will not be served.
Attendance Finals:
In order to give incentives for students to improve their grades and attendance in school the following procedures have been implemented:
Students who meet all of the following criteria have the option of taking or skipping the attendance final day:
* 5 or fewer absences per class
* 3 or less tardies per class - students who have 4 or more tardies in a class need to attend the attendance final
* No grades below 60%
There will be no restriction on days students miss for school excused activities. If a student elects not to take the final, he or she does not have to attend class on the day the final has been scheduled. Students may elect to take the final to raise their grades. If a student is caught sluffing/skipping in one or more classes, they will take finals for all classes. Attendance finals will be given on the last day of the first and second trimester and a date to be determined in the third trimester. Teachers have the ability to determine what the attendance final includes, and may allow this to be worth up to 5% of the trimester grade.

Absence / Tardy Limits
1 Truancy                All attendance finals must be taken.
4 Tardies                 Attendance final must be taken in that class.
6 Absences             Attendance finals must be taken in that class.
9 Absences             Credit will be lost.
It is a great day to be a Bobcat!
