Halloween is drawing nearer, the time of year that always makes us a little keener on ghosts and phantoms, but this year, tidings of just such terrors have haunted the hallways much more than usual. Rumors have been flying, and it’s always hard to know what’s really happening. So, what’s the scoop?

Rumor has it that strange things have been happening inside Madison. One anonymous student supplies that water fountains randomly turn on and off, and lights are sometimes known to flicker. It definitely had a spooky sound to it, so I thought I’d investigate further.

Ninth grade student Rebekah Gwilliam reported that she has felt random taps on the head during school. On multiple occasions, she would turn around or feel her head to find no apparent origin for the feeling.

She wasn’t the only one. Multiple students recall strange presences or brushes felt.  More students remember hearing screams or strange laughter during class.

One explored theory has questioned the bars on the windows of the upstairs classrooms. Every rule has a reason, right? Could there have been a student that died in this school?

Kennedy Fryar certainly thinks so, saying, “I believe in ghosts 100%. I didn’t before, but then I came to this school. I’ve heard things. I’ve seen things.” With that, she couldn’t be bothered to say anymore, claiming that she couldn’t have the “banshees” following her. “Ghost snitches get ghost stitches,” she said.

Are the rumors just that - rumors? Or is there some truth to this legend? Whatever you believe, it’s clear that something eerie is edging its way into everyday reality. It may not be a job for Dr. Peter Venkmen yet, but maybe Scooby Doo and his gang?
