On Wednesday, December 8th, 2021, Madison blew Eagle Rock out of the water with a 78 to 30 point win in wrestling.

They were very excited and ready for this dual, not knowing how it would go. They had been going to their other meets and practicing for a while. This meet was at home, but typically they leave classes during the fifth hour to go to away meets.

“I think the away meets are pretty fun because we get to ride the fancy buses,” stated Caleb Rhodes, one of the wrestlers for Madison. “Then there’s Greyson. He’s pretty funny.”

This dual started out with announcing the contestants. Eagle Rock had about 14 kids while Madison had almost 30. Eagle Rock had to forfeit half the matches due to their absence of wrestlers in certain weight classes.

The dual kicked off with the 70 pounders and went up to the heavyweights of over 190 pounds. Eagle Rock scored 12 points right off the bat. But they didn't score again for almost 40 minutes. Madison was scoring left and right, in only a few matches, Madison was already at 30 points versus Eagle Rock’s 12.

The match obviously was going to be won by Madison. Suddenly, Eagle rock got 12 more points. They were now at 24. Not to worry, after a few matches, Madison was at 66 points. Then, Eagle Rock scored their final six points.

The dual ended with Madison at 78 and Eagle Rock at 30. It was an easy win for Madison, but Eagle Rock fought hard.

The Madison coach was glad to see another win for his team. He had trained them hard and well. “The first round is won by skill, second round is won by best conditioned, third round is won by most heart. You have to want it,” Coach Ray stated.

Madison dominated the dual, and this finished their last regular match of the year. On Saturday, December 11th, the district championship will be held in Idaho Falls. Wrestlers will compete individually and as a team. The winners from Saturday’s district tournament will go to the state championship in Boise.
