The state cross country meet for Idaho happened on Friday, October 30, 2020. The Madison High School Girls Varsity team placed 7th, and the Boys Varsity team placed 3rd. The meet was in Boise, Idaho. State was especially great this year because the team wasn’t sure that they would even be able to compete due to COVID-19.

There are two freshmen girls on the varsity team currently going to the junior high, Ellie Dixon, and Ester Moldenhauer. Ellie Dixon placed 51st with a time of 21:00:08, and Ester Moldenhauer placed 42nd with a time of 20:39:00. These times are really good by the way. Here is Ellie’s experience at the meet in her own words.

“It was really intimidating when we were walking past all the tents because everyone looked so much older than me, but my teammates really helped me stay confident. It was a really hard course and the start was super fast. I felt like I wouldn't be able to keep going, but I saw Ruby and Ester ahead of me and just decided I would try to stay as close to them as possible. While running the second mile I really felt like I got a burst of energy and I was really able to stay strong. That was one of the things that helped me get faster this season. Our team got really close over the season and the older girls really embraced Ester and me. One of the best moments was after the race, we all just hugged each other and told each other good job. Ester even brought gummy worms and we ate them afterward.”

Great job Madison Cross Country team! You had a great season and we’re looking forward to seeing you run again next year!
