The boys Madison freshman football team had a blowout win against Skyline on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 with a final score of 61-22 at Ravsten Stadium.

This was a very important win for the Bobcats because last year both 8th grade Madison football teams lost to this team in the playoffs and they were both devastating losses. The Bobcats have been looking forward to this game all season to “seek revenge” against the team that beat both Madison teams last season.

At the start of the game, Madison came out strong and scored a quick rushing touchdown by Barkley Beck. Bryce Dredge kicked the extra point. The score was 7-0. After Skyline returned the kickoff, Tanner Johnson returned an interception for a touchdown to set the score at 14-0. After a quick 3 and out by the Madison defense, Madison put more points on the board with another long run by Barkley Beck. This made another touchdown for the Bobcats. After Madison’s defence stopped Skyline yet again, Hazen Torgerson set up a beautiful touchdown pass to Nash Humphreys. At the end of the first quarter the score was 28-0 Madison.

After a terrible second quarter from the Bobcats, the score at halftime was 28-15. In the locker room at half time, Assistant Coach Parkinson told all the players, “I don’t know what that second quarter was, but that was not you guys. You guys should be scoring every drive like in the first quarter.”

Madison then came out and kept on putting points on the board until the game was over and only let Skyline score one more touchdown before the game was over. A couple of the key plays of the second half were when Bryce Dredge ran 50 yards for a touchdown and when Hazen Torgerson ran for a 15-yard touchdown with Ezra Sutton leading the way with his amazing downfield blocking. Porter Cottle also had some great blocking skills.

Either way it was a pretty impressive win for the Bobcats and they have avenged themselves from last season with a final score of 61-22 Madison. They certainly have a lot to improve on before playing Thunder Ridge next week but still, we are all proud of them for stepping up in the second half and holding on for the win.
