All the Good
The little things that make life better. The feeling when you plug your phone in just in time, before it dies, the feeling when you get home from a long day and see leftovers in the fridge that you forgot about, when the sun shines through the window at the perfect angle or when you find a ten dollar bill in your pocket. These little things are the reason to smile. These little things are what keep us going.
The best feeling of all–summer. What makes summer as a whole so amazing? All of the little things. For most, the number one reason is sunshine. It's scientifically proven that sunshine increases our serotonin and makes us happier. Even if we can't be outside in the summer, that little glare through the window can cause the biggest smile. What else? The cold breeze that hits right when you need it, the smell of fresh cut grass or freshly bloomed flowers. Cracking open an ice cold lemonade, the first dive into the pool. It may not be summer yet, but we are so close and the thought of summer is enough to make us smile.
The senses also bring us more happiness than we sometimes notice. The smell of rain or fresh chocolate chip cookies, or a scented candle burning. Petting a soft puppy or a cozy blanket. Seeing the most colorful sunset or ocean that seems to go on forever. Hearing your favorite song come on the radio or the ding of a text from your best friend.
Those moments you realize life is better than you thought. Going through a school day and realizing it's Friday. Waking up in the morning and checking the clock to see you have 2 more hours to sleep before you need to get up. Finding another chip at the bottom of the bag. Little unexpected surprises that put a quick smile on your face.
The feeling of accomplishment. Athletes train so hard and put so much effort into perfecting their sport, what makes all this hard work worth it? When you score that game winning goal, when your team's name is called for first place, the moment when you’re standing there after all the hard work and you accomplished your goal. That feeling doesn't have to just be sports, it can also be when the grades go in for a test and you see an A or when you beat the hardest level of your game that took weeks to pass.
The best part is, all of these “little things” aren't so little. Anything at all that makes you smile, whether it's winning a game or seeing the sun shining through the window, if it makes you smile, that's a pretty good thing. Find these good things and keep that smile on your face, because you smiling at someone could be their new reason to smile.
